About

Mendip’s pioneering Instructor Training Scheme has been running for over 25 years and is the best way into a career in the outdoor industry.

Established in 1987, Mendip Outdoor Pursuits has grown into one of the biggest and most reputable outdoor activity provider in the South West.

Our unique 250-acre site nestled in the heart of the Mendip Hills includes an indoor residential centre, two canvas villages, private rock sport quarry, snowsport slopes and a cave system with easy access to everything else the Mendip Hills has to offer.

Our unrivalled success is largely due to the reputation and experience of our instructors – who we believe are the best in the business. Our pioneering approach to instructor training has evolved since we launched our industry-first training programme in 1995. Subsequently, we’ve built our business and our hard-earned reputation on the back of our successful training programme.

We know how tough it is to get started in the outdoor industry which is why we invest in people, training and qualifications. During your six months with us, you will learn not only how to run safe, fun and engaging sessions but see the other side of the business and be involved in the administration of bookings and the day to day running of a busy outdoor centre.

If you’re aiming for a rewarding career as an outdoor professional, this is the course for you.

Mendip has pioneered an alternative way into the industry. We pay for your training, qualifications and a training salary from day one. You’ll earn a base salary of at least £840 per month. We’ll pay for all your qualifications and memberships which could cost up to £600. Your basic allowance will then also be topped up as soon as you gain in-house or NGB qualifications and start leading sessions in those activities where you have signed off.

This is the best way into the rewarding career in the great outdoors!

Interview: Before we invite you to an interview we would like you to send in a video introducing yourself and talking about a subject you are passionate about. Because we can’t meet everyone face to face we’re keen to learn a little more about everyone, before we hold online interviews.

You video should be no more than two minutes long and filmed to camera so you are in the shot. Your introduction doesn’t need to be long but must include your name and why you’re interested in this career path. Your talk about a subject you are passionate about should make up the greater part of the video. You can use physical props and items but please remain in shot at all times. The subject can be about anything but should be something you’re knowledgeable about and is important to you.

Please email your video clips to luke.moore@mendip.me
